Michael Weatherly dropped out of college to dedicate to his acting career. He is also a music lover and alongside his acting career; he played in a band. When he was playing in this band, he started to act professionally and he landed his first job in The Cosby Show, in which he was Theo Huxtable's roommate, and then he had a part in the independent movie, Trigger Happy, with Rosario Dawson. After that, he had multiple other appearances in TV shows which took him to Los Angeles.

After moving to LA, he got a regular role in the TV series, Significant Others. Then Weatherly met director Whit Stillman,
who directed him in the movie The Last Days of Disco along with Chloe Sevigny.

More recently, Weatherly was the ex-husband of Christina Applegate's series Jesse and he worked on various independent films, The Specials with Rob Lowe; Venus and Mars with Lynn Redgrave; Gun Shy with Liam Neeson and Sandra Bullock
