Step by step,
Mile after mile.
Always looking back,
Always afraid

I look back at the pain.
I look back at what I lost.
Back at what was taken from me,
At those who suffered because of me.

I run, faster and faster,
Trying to get away.
But it still follows,
The pain that stabs at me.

I can run no longer, it nears me.
But just as it approaches, I look forward.
I look forward and see the hope.
I look forward and find peace.
