Episode Review - Proof of Purchase.

The title of this episode was "Proof of Purchase" and all I have to say about that is…that image was just a little too vivid when Mr. White said it to Alec. "Proof of Purchase" was written by Tommy Thompson, and if I'm not mistaken this is his first DARK ANGEL episode. Don't hold me to that though, I haven't actually checked into that.

The third episode of the season and it looks like the writer's are determined to keep Max and Logan apart. I'm not surprised or anything, but man, they are certainly torturing us. And those longing looks between Max and Logan are reminiscent of Buffy and Angel. I've been watching the repeats BUFFY on FX and loving every minute of it. I forgot how good it was/is and why Joss Whedon is a god.

One thing BUFFY has never done is incorporate wrestling into the show. Of course, now that it's on UPN so maybe we'll see an episode with Spike in cage match. You never know. Spike would look as yummy as Alec did I'm sure. I didn't particularly like the wrestling segment. Just a bit over the top for me. Alec is living up to his name though and he is really bad at laying low, as evidenced by his capture. And why was Normal there? I guess we have to get Alec into Max's regular life in some way. One thing for sure is that Alec needs to grow out his hair to cover that barcode. It's pretty well known in the city now that there are transgenics with barcodes on the back of their necks, even it's just been printed in the tabloids. Sketchy has been looking out for them and he's probably not the only one.

The panther transgenic was disgusting by the way and I was glad Alec was unable to kill one of his own. One thing I appreciate about DARK ANGEL this season is that despite the potential for the "freak of the week" storylines, they have refrained from doing them thus far. Of course, it's still early in the season and that formula will be used at more than once I'm sure, but hopefully not to the extent as it's being used in SMALLVILLE. Yes, a ROSWELL fan giving SMALLVILLE a chance. Well, ROSWELL has been disappointing to say the least this season. Why they can't figure out a formula that works is beyond me? Season one was great, too bad they can't pretend like season two was a dream. Anyway, the "freak of the week" theme that SMALLVILLE is using worked on X-FILES, because there was an underlying storyline and, of course, Mulder and Scully travel the country and go to where the freaks are. It's just not as believable with all the freaks in one city and besides the underlying theme of Clark discovering he is Superman isn't being played up enough for my taste. DARK ANGEL has that underlying Manticore storyline at least, but I still think that if they have too many of those "freak of the week" stories, it'll be a cop-out.

Anyway, DARK ANGEL doesn't need those stories. They have Manticore, Mr. White, and of course Lydecker. I refuse to believe he's gone. Lydecker will be back. I'm anxious to see what he was about to learn. As far as Mr. White goes, I am extremely interested in his underlying motivation. Of course, there's also Joshua. Poor guy is going to have to rely on Max forever. I'm not sure what he'll be adding to the mix yet, but I do like how he brings out the softer side of Max. The search for Sandeman is fascinating. Max almost remembers him, and we know Max is special somehow, but what was Sandeman trying to create when he created Max. And why did Sandeman leave Manticore? So many questions and I'm thinking we won't get any real answers till February or May sweeps.

So in the end, Max saved Alec's butt at the possible cost of her future with Logan. Will Alec be able to make it up to Max? I'm thinking that will keep him in town for awhile. Alec's a good guy at heart, and he's definitely some quality eye candy. I'm glad he's here to stay.

Next week, we get the return of Rafer, only this time he tries to give Max mouth to mouth. Later.
