I am so excited!! Finally Dark Angel has a stretch of new episodes. FOX has really done a number on this show, constant preemption's and the lack of re-runs is very annoying!! With the media attention this show has gotten , I am surprised by that. I do think the show will be back next season, there is no conformation on this however, just a gut feeling on my part or maybe I just need to think positively. It is an expensive show though and not in the main stream, which means it doesn't get the ratings of other shows on FOX, such as BOSTON PUBLIC and ALLY MCBEAL, so it is possible FOX may let it go. If you want to help with efforts in saving the show, check out the links page here at DarkAngelFan.com and find out what you can do. A simple letter can go a long way in helping this show stay on the air for another season. Well with a series of new episodes I guess I better keep up with these reviews, getting behind is easy, catching up is very hard! Well, with this review I am caught up, I just hope I can finish it before Tuesday. It’s Sunday now and I tend to drag out writing for days if I can't figure out exactly what to say. ‘Shorties in Love’ was written by Adisa Iwa and with it, we finally get to see part of what makes my favorite Dark Angel secondary character, Original Cindy tick. There was a lot of comic relief at the beginning of this episode. It was needed, because at the end of the episode was dark and very hard to watch. Gotta love Sketchy. Finally they are using him in a way which makes sense. I hate to compare this show to BUFFY, but comparison is inevitable. Sketchy reminds me of Xander to an extent. He's goofy and provides an absurd comments to lighten the show. There are a lot of differences of course, including the fact that Sketchy does not know who/what Max is and he's not stable as Xander is. The drooling over lesbians is something common to both Sketchy and Xander. What is it with guys and lesbians anyway? Nevermind I don't want to know! Sketchy does provide needed comic relief, especially in the last couple of episodes. Now that the writers are using Sketchy as a comic, Richard Gunn is starting to shine in the role. I also enjoyed the play between Max and Logan in this episode. Logan writes poetry! What a man! The ending where he finally lets Max see his poetry is classic. He, of course, feels foolish letting her see it, not knowing that how Max felt about the poem. It was really cute. This episode centered around Original Cindy and her past love, Diamond played by Tangelia Rouse. The chemistry between these two was somewhat forced, but all in all, the episode was well done and Tangelia and Valarie did a pretty good job. I remember the hoopla over the Willow and Tara kiss not too long ago. I don't think the WB would even allow a kiss last season, and Joss snuck one in this season in a place where a kiss wasn't about passion, but more about grief and love. This kiss was a bit more than that. The use of gay characters in network television is becoming more common and gay couples kissing is inevitable. Maybe even someday we won't even think twice about it. These couples will just be another couple, not a gay couple. Well, Original Cindy was reunited with her lost love, only to have her torn away at the end. I could have done without the last kissing scene between Diamond and the exec. That was just disgusting and my weak stomach could barely watch it. The use of prisoners in experiments is just another in a long line of corrupt officials in post-pulse America. Something else for Logan and Max to fix. Those two certainly have their work cut out for them. All in all, the main storyline lacked something for me. It was the moments like the water heater crashing through the ceiling and Max capturing the rat, which by the way would less likely be in her crib if food wasn't sitting out on the counter!! Also Sketchy asking Max what was happening over at her place with three hot chicks, and Max continually teasing Logan about his poetry. Those bits are what made the episode enjoyable for me. It was also great to see the return of Jade C. Bell as Sebastian. I don't know if I ever mentioned this before, but I really like the guy. He adds a little something to the show. Next week looks like a good one and I think I remember reading somewhere that one of the writers said it is phenomenal episode and may be a defining episode too. It continually astounds me what these writers come up with, so I for one cannot wait. And with this review, I am caught up. Yeah me! See you next week.
