Our heroine has a new enemy and we can be sure to see many challenges for her ahead, oh boy am I excited! 'Red' was written by Jose Molina and David Zabel with the story by Rene Echevarria and Charles H. Eglee and is a nice set up for February sweeps. In this episode we have the brief return of Bruno Enselmo, played by Doug O'Keeffe, from the pilot. You may remember him as the creep Max beat up in the hotel room and then tricked him into killing his own boss. Max is a clever one! Well, Bruno hasn't changed much. He's still a sexist lowlife with an overactive libido looking to make a quick buck. This time he succeeded in getting some moola (and that is in the Webster Thesauraus, I checked), but it was a short lived victory for poor Bruno. We did learn something new about Bruno this time around. He has a kid which he seems love a great deal, so maybe he isn't so one-dimensional after all. But it really doesn't matter now though, we will be having no more visits from Bruno. He is definitely gone this time around, and although Max wanted to kill him, she didn't get the pleasure, another lowlife got the better of Bruno Enselmo. The best part of this episode was the introduction of the Red Series. Max has a new enemy, and although Lydecker has been one creepy foe, I must say these Red Series guys are even creepier and they are just as deadly as she is in a fight. These boys are truly scary. They have abilities very similar to Max, including super strength, only they seem to have no morals and they don't seem to feel anything. They behave like robots, following orders is all they seem to do. I cringed more than once watching them remove bullets themselves and use hot pokers to seal wounds. They are emotionless, ruthless, and don't feel pain. This is going to be a tough foe for Max, and not only do they know what she looks like, but they also have her pager. I expect to see them in February sweeps. The introduction of the Red Series brings about the realization that wherever Max goes, there is someone who wants what she has. Manticore technology is desired worldwide, so Max will never truly be safe and by helping Logan, she is just putting herself more at risk. She is putting herself out there and coming into contact with the guys who would sell her to the highest bidder in a heartbeat. It is dangerous work, but she has a big heart and I doubt she will give it up. Last week, she saved those girls from being shipped out of the country to do God knows what, and this week she helped bring down the Mayor has been a disease to the city of Seattle. It's good work she is doing, so she will continue to do it despite the risk, because no matter how much Max likes to talk tough, she does have a good heart. No secondary storyline for the Jam Pony crew in this episode. I can't say I missed it too much. I guess I've grown tired of the ridiculous secondary storylines that have nothing to do with Max. Don't get me wrong, I greatly enjoy seeing Herbal, Sketchy, and especially Original Cindy at play, but sometimes it seems too much like filler to me. Last week was nice, because we got to learn more about Normal, but it' not enough. I'd like to see these characters have more of a storyline. I realize the show is about Max, but why are all these other characters listed in the credits if they are just filler. In most shows characters like these are reoccurring characters not series regulars. Maybe they will get more involved as the series progresses, we are only on the 10th episode after all. So, an interesting tidbit of this episode, is the mention of Mr. Multiples by Kendra and it seems Max knows Mr. Multiples too. I wonder who this could be. First person that comes to my mind is Lydecker (I know I'm sick), but you must admit, that would be interesting to say the least. Some real danger in the future if Kendra is unknowingly getting it on with Max's worst enemy. I mean, we do know that Kendra has met Lydecker. They were held captive together in 'Prodigy' after all and he asked her to hold his gun. And we also know that Kendra has seen Max with Lydecker. Kendra actually warned her to 'watch out for the older ones-- less testosterone and more charm, but it's... still all about banging the gong.' So my guess for Mr. Multiples is Lydecker. I could be way off the mark though here. Some other candidates could by Bling or Zack, I doubt it's any of the Jam Pony crew. Only time will tell. Well another good one, and with February sweeps coming up, it will only get better. I have not read the episode description for the next episode. I am avoiding any contact with spoilers, even TV Guide descriptions, because I gave them up for the New Year. It's hard too, but I've decided to quit cold turkey. We have a repeat on Jan 30th and then a new episode February 5th. See you then.
